On the Mountainside

On the mountainside, I stood alone

A solitary figure, lost in thought’s dark tone

The silent breeze whispered secrets, as the trees above

Swayed gently, their leaves rustling, a soothing love

I pondered life’s purpose, and the legacy we’d leave

The impact of our actions, the memories we’d weave

I thought of the wall, a symbol of our past

A testament to triumphs, and failures that would forever last

The handwriting on the wall, a warning to us all

A reminder of our mortality, and the fleeting nature of our fall

If I could boast of writing, what would be my claim?

Would the world remember my words, or forget my name?

In moments of despair, I’ve felt the weight of sorrow’s might

The urge to surrender, to let the darkness take flight

But then I think of my child, with eyes so bright and wide

Too precious to be lost, a shining light in the night

Time is a teacher, who proves all things true

It brings us wisdom, and shows us what we can do

Vanquished by tears, our fears and doubts subside

As we find the strength to carry on, and let our spirits glide.
